Class 2 Time and Calendar
Time Reading
We use clock to see the time. There are 12 numbers available on the face of a clock. It has three hands.
1. Hour hand
2. Minute hand
3. Second hand
The shortest hand is known as Hour hand. The longest hand is known as minute hand and the thinnest hand is known as
second hand. In this class we will not discuss on second hand.
In the above picture, hour hand is on 9 and minute hand is on 12, then we can say it is 9 o clock.
It can be written as 9:00.
In the above picture hour hand is on 5 and minute hand is on 12, then it is 5 o clock or 5:00.
In this picture hour hand is between 10 and 11. The minute hand is at 6. The time is 30 minutes past 10
or half past 10. We write it as 10:30.
In this picture the hour hand is between 1 and 2. The minute hand is at 3. The time is 15 minutes
past 1 or one-fifteen. We write it as 1:15.
In this picture, the hour hand is between 5 and 6. The minute hand is at 9. The time is 45 minutes
past 5 or five forty-five. It is written as 5:45, also called as quarter to 6.
Weeks
There are 7 days in a week. In one month, we have 4 weeks. In a year we have 52 weeks. In a year, we have 365 days.
Months
January, March, May, July, August, October and December months have 31 days.
April, June, September and November have 30 days.
February month has 28 days except leap year. In a leap year, February month has 29 days.
A leap year has 366 days.
